Chronic Sinusitis

Chronic sinusitis is a long-lasting inflammation of the sinuses that causes facial pressure, nasal congestion, and headaches. At SPRING ENT, we provide modern, minimally invasive treatment options to relieve sinus symptoms and improve quality of life.

What Is Chronic Sinusitis & When Should You Seek Treatment?

Chronic sinusitis, also known as chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), is a condition where the sinuses remain inflamed and swollen for 12 weeks or longer, despite treatment attempts. It affects approximately 14% of the U.S. population and can significantly impact day-to-day comfort and functioning.

Common symptoms include:

  • Facial pressure or pain
  • Headaches or a heavy feeling in the head
  • Nasal congestion or obstruction
  • Postnasal drip
  • Decreased or lost sense of smell
  • Fatigue
  • Thick nasal discharge

You should seek treatment if you’ve had ongoing symptoms that don’t improve with over-the-counter medications, or if sinus infections return frequently. Chronic sinusitis can also be linked to other conditions such as allergies, nasal polyps, or structural issues in the nasal passages—making expert evaluation essential.

How We Treat Chronic Sinusitis at SPRING ENT:

Dr. Paul Spring uses a modern, patient-centered approach to diagnosing and managing chronic sinusitis. Evaluation typically includes a comprehensive history, physical exam, and, if needed, imaging or nasal endoscopy to identify the root cause of inflammation.

Many sinus conditions can be treated with in-office procedures that are well tolerated and involve minimal discomfort. Depending on your case, treatment may include:

  • Prescription nasal sprays or corticosteroids
  • Allergy testing and immunotherapy
  • Antibiotics for infections
  • Minimally invasive procedures such as balloon sinuplasty to restore normal drainage
  • Surgical intervention for more severe or structural cases

Our goal is to provide long-lasting relief in the most comfortable setting possible—often without the need for hospital-based surgery.
